Using the site challenges as a platform for creative problem solving, the landscape design on the Smithson residence uses landscape terracing, native grasses, and rock outcroppings to mitigate site conditions. The result is a design that blends with both the building and the surrounding landscape.
Stone retaining walls were used to mitigate the steep slope found on site.
